welcome aboard

“Trust yourself; you’re a woman now. Let go. Free-fall. And go back to the Ocean”

Vanessa Mancini;
rya Yacht Master Offshore: Sail

  • I love the Ocean and I see life as an adventure, so this why I decided that I wanted to learn how to sail.

    My idea as The Short Notice Sailor was to offer myself as a crewing service to skippers and companies that found themselves short handed for their voyages and charters.
    The result was an epic adventure; during my first season I sailed around the Hebridean Islands, worked with four companies and sailed on six different vessels, including Motor Vessels, Gaffs, Tall Ships and Bermudian Sloops.
    And ended the 2023 season with a Biscay Crossing and a Passage to Southern Portugal onboard one of the Tall Ships.

    I’ve filled various roles onboard including, Trainee Deckhand, Stewardess and Deck Crew.

  • This Season I am returning to the North West Coast of Scotland and the Hebridean Islands, the wild opals of the British Isles.
    I’ll be crewing onboard SV Stravaigin with skipper John Orminston. We offer a “close to the wild” experience onboard an 8 berth 44ft Elan Impression 434.
